| Edgewise braces (left) are the most common types of braces used in Australia. As shown in the left photo, clear brackets are available. The picture on the right shows old technology braces still used by some orthodontists. |
Braces are the most efficient and accurate way of moving teeth. They are beneficial to both adults and children alike and are the most popular choice for Orthodontic treatment. Braces work by asserting gentle pressure on your teeth and over time moving them into their desired positions.
Today with the many advances in dental technology, braces are much less bulky and intrusive. No more ‘train tracks’ running across your teeth or ‘metal mouths’. Braces consist of bands, brackets and wires, which are usually made of stainless steel and a selected metal alloy. Your braces are adjusted periodically to achieve the optimal result.
There are many different types of Orthodontic Braces available, and more than one of them may be suitable for your particular type of treatment. The braces that are proposed for you individually will take many different things into account such as your age, proposed length of treatment, severity of your particular case and to some extent, your aesthetic requirements. Following a thorough assessment, Dr Tselepis will discuss the most appropriate braces for you or your child’s personal needs.
