Second phase
The goal of the second phase of two-phase orthodontic treatment is to achieve the final alignment of the teeth and a proper functional relationship. With this goal in mind, the teeth will stay healthy and look attractive over a lifetime.
Progress orthodontic records are normally obtained at this time to document the first phase results and for diagnosis and treatment planning of the second phase. The second phase is normally initiated when all of the permanent teeth have erupted and usually requires braces on all of the teeth for a period of 18 to 24 months. Retainers are routinely worn after this phase.
